Press release, 21 December 2018

CONCITO has agreed with the World Resources Institute (WRI) to develop a strategic partnership over the coming years. WRI is the world's largest green think tank with headquarters in Washington DC and is widely recognized for its analytical work and efforts to catalyze increased climate change action around the world.

As part of CONCITO's strategy, efforts are already under way to strengthen the link between the Danish green transition and the best international knowledge and practice. It is critical for the achievements of the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, that the best knowledge and practice is shared and scaled up as quickly as possible. CONCITO sees WRI as a perfect partner for bridging with the global learning curve.

CONCITO's chairperson, Connie Hedegaard, states in this regard that:

"The partnership with WRI is an important next step in CONCITO's efforts to promote knowledge-based action everywhere, and we are proud that one of the world's largest and most respected green think tanks sees CONCITO as a qualified partner and partner. The world needs so much speed on the green transition and one of the tools is to become much better at working together and sharing knowledge and experiences. This consideration is precisely at the core of this new cooperation between CONCITO and the WRI”

WRI believes in the same way that significant relevant knowledge and experience from Denmark and key actors in the green Danish transition can be obtained for the benefit of the global transition, and sees CONCITO as an obvious partner in the Nordic region. This strengthens the ability to transfer Danish and Nordic knowledge and experience to efforts in other countries and regions.

Andrew Steer, President of WRI, thus expresses that:

“I am delighted that the 10th anniversary of CONCITO also offered an opportunity to deepen the WRI/CONCITO partnership. We have long recognized the need to work closely with Danish and Nordic actors, many of which are leading the way in delivering solutions for more sustainable future. We share a common belief: that economic development is inseparable from environmental stewardship, and we are committed to working towards the same promise, that of a better future in which prosperity is not for the few at the expense of the many and of the environment, but fueled by the rich opportunities that are embedded in realizing the Paris Agreement and SDGs”.

CONCITO and WRI are very different in size but share fundamentally the objective of promoting a science-based green transition in cooperation between political institutions, business and civil society. CONCITO and WRI will immediately focus on developing joint efforts in relation to programs on cities, transport and food, but will also work on common agendas related to green finance, as well as public-private partnerships.

As part of the implementation of this partnership, CONCITO and WRI is hiring a dedicated employee to advance the partnership in cooperation with relevant Nordic partners.
