Strengthening Climate Finance Delivery: The Path from Brazil’s G20 Presidency to COP30

CONCITO and partners support the Brazilian G20 Presidency with a focus on financing for climate and development.

Brazil's presidency of the G20 this year and of COP30 in 2025 offer important opportunities to discuss the delivery of climate finance and advance important decisions on major climate finance issues.

CONCITO is part of an international consortium of partners that have come together in support of this process under the leadership of the Brazilian Institute for Climate and Society (iCS), including the Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) and the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI). On March 1st, a high-level roundtable in São Paulo brought together Brazilian government representatives with international institutions and experts.

The discussions began with a common understanding that climate finance in developing and emerging economies must be addressed within the context of broader development challenges, and that the only way forward involves significantly scaling up investments in climate-aligned development with financing from both domestic and international, public and private sources.

The summary of the discussions highlights suggestions for action in areas including: financial architecture reform; country platforms to support development and investment plans; risk mitigation; international taxation; nature finance; adaptation finance; the new finance goal under the Paris Agreement; and the cost of inaction on climate change.
